| Notes From the Iron Horse's Daughter |
This was my first entirely
computer-drawn comic, all mouse-drawn (and it shows it too!). Herein I
reveal my
total ignorance of the
mechanics of steam engines, though the one in the story is actually fusion-powered
and
semi-magical in nature.
The Railworld is yet another of my imaginary universes, based on the supposition
that
Civil War/Reconstruction
refugees found their way through a 'pinhole' into a world of ancient, abandoned
technology with a rail
infrastructure already built in by its previous occupants. The "Railhead"
is actually a planet
which is lifeless on
the outside but threaded throughout with huge caverns with light/heat sources,
water
and soil - like pockets
of life. At the center of this is "The Works" which is an ancient semi-autonymous
factory
complex which the newer
inhabitants still don't entirely understand yet, but have managed to make
a
deal with, and this partnership
has yeilded sentient machines to run the rails. On the outside, they resemble
the
steam engines that people
of 19th-century culture would be familiar with, inside... well,
there's a lot more to'em,
or where's the story in it?
